This is not about asking someone out on a date, it is about the ways the British show the dates on products as opposed to the way the Americans show dates on products.
In America dates are written as follows Month/Day/Year
In Britain dates are written as follows Day/Month/Year
This can lead to some confusion when a food product is dated for example 1/7/11 - in the USA this date would be Jan 7 2011 - In England this date would be July 1 2011
Imported food that is manufactured or packaged in the UK will be dated in the British Fashion.
